NCEA 91027 - MCAT/Algebra Excellence workshop
This is the Excellence level workshop for NCEA 91027 - MCAT/Algebra exam for level 1 Mathematics (New Zealand curriculum). This contains a collection of videos covering each of 16 excellence style exam questions, with detailed explanations. Take the opportunity to slowly work through those you are not sure of to help with better understanding. Also included is a 5 page worksheet with all the questions along with skills required, tips and requirements for Excellence. Questions covered include proofs, complex algebraic fractions, solving more complex quadratic equations and inequations, word problems, solving a basic cubic equation, simultaneous equations, rearrangements, geometric type problems etc.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 1
Question 1 from the NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence workshop. Here we look at a inequation where the variable x is in a power.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 2
Solve a complex algebra equation with variables in powers by making numbers with the same base
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 3
See how to first factorise quadratics in an algebraic fraction to simplify out a common bracket, then solve.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 4
Solve a complex algebra fraction by multiplying all terms with all denominators. Then simplify and solve quadratic expressions.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 5
Look at how to deal with a division of algebraic fractions by multiplying by the reciprocal
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 6
Express A in terms of B where A and B each have their own algebra expressions.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 7
Learn how to express even and odd numbers as algebra expressions and use that to prove an odd number.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 8
Use algebra to generalise finding the difference between 2 consecutive numbers in a sequence given by a quadratic algebra expression
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 9
Be familiar with expressions like 'natural number', 'squares', 'difference' to come up with algebraic equations to solve for an unknown number.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 10
Use algebra to find and rearrange equations and change the subject in complex scenarios.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 11
For this word problem it's important to know how to come up with the algebra equations from the words. The equations then have to be solved simultaneously, which we do by substitution in this example.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 12
A diagram is given to assist in proving Pythagoras' theorem using algebraic expression for the area of rectangles and triangles
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence question 13
Find algebraic expressions for the areas of part circles in order to solve for the radius of a circle.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 14
Use volume to create and solve a cubic algebraic equation.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 15
Area of rectangles is used to come up with algebraic equations to solve for the width of a path.
-
NCEA 91027 - MCAT Excellence Question 16
Given a linear equation and graph, use given known coordinates to find the unknowns in a linear algebra equation. This requires simultaneous equations. In this video we will look at solving by elimination.
